Deadly gold mine attack kills dozens in South Sudan

Least 73 people have been killed and many others hurt in a very bad attack on a gold mining site in South Sudan. This shows that South Sudan is still not a place.

The attack happened over the weekend in Khor Kaltan, a place where people mine for gold 70 kilometres southwest of the capital city, Juba. Vice President James Wani Igga said that least 73 gold miners were killed and 25 others were very badly hurt in the attack.

Vice President James Wani Igga wants the people who are hurt to get help right away. He also wants to know who did this and why so he ordered an investigation. The people who did this are still not known they are just called attackers. Some people think that more people might have been killed, maybe up to 86 people.

The place where they mine for gold has had a lot of conflicts before because many groups want to control the gold. Experts say that these kinds of attacks are very bad because they hurt people and also make it harder for the country to become stable.
